About me

Cisco 8841, rera-sip01, extension 1002

I'm Ryvan, from NRW, Germany. I like pretty much everything a nerd tends to like.

It all started when I was 10 years old: I began programming my own Minecraft mods and plugins, and I've been taking things apart and putting them back together ever since.

What I'm into

• Electrical engineering – I occasionally weld and solder and do other electrical engineering stuff.
• Systems administration – my homelab, see the rack.
• Weird embedded systems – desk phones, PLCs, anything with a strange little computer inside.
• Hacking old hardware – I really love it.
• Also: ham radio, 3D printing and metalwork.

Favourite recent hack: I reverse engineered the driver for my label printer, so I don't have to use the shitty Chinese spyware app anymore.

I like SIP phones way too much.

Honestly. I collect business desk phones – Cisco, Polycom, Yealink. I have more phones than I get calls. Each one has a label with its hostname and is connected to my own FreePBX. See them all: Phones.

Other stuff

The rack

• All my hosts are called rera-*. The phones too.
• On the desktop: Gentoo with Niri.
• At home there's an Active Directory with its own CA.
• I have more VLANs than rooms.
• Proxmox cluster with 3 nodes – more on the rack page.

An Active Directory with its own CA at home deserves some old-school enterprise logos.
